Harm Reduction Vending Machines
Harm reduction is a set of strategies, ideas, and techniques for reducing the negative effects of drug use and preventing an overdose before someone gets help. These machines are located across Delaware to make a variety of harm reduction tools accessible to the public. The tools are free and easy to use, and they could save a life.
What’s available in harm reduction vending machines?
- Narcan (naloxone) overdose response kits
- Xylazine and fentanyl test strips
- Deterra bags (for safe medication disposal)
- Wound-care kits
When available via donations, the machines may also contain:
- Safe-sex kits
- HIV self-test kits
- Dental hygiene kits
- Hygiene kits
The machines also have clear and easy-to-understand directions for spotting an overdose and giving someone Narcan.
How the vending machines work.
Harm reduction vending machines are totally free and designed for anonymous use. They don’t collect any data — you’re only required to enter a ZIP code to dispense items. And it works almost just like a normal vending machine.
When you visit a vending machine, follow these simple steps:
- Enter your ZIP code.
- Select the item or items you want.
- The items will fall to the bin at the bottom — push the small door open.
- You’re done! Take your items.
- If you got Narcan, please be sure to review the directions for use — they’re printed on the machine!
No Delaware ZIP code? That’s fine. Each machine has a designated, clearly displayed code that you can use.

Help reduce harm and save lives — donate materials.
While the vending machines are stocked with four main products, many others are only available when we receive donations. These materials can be very important for the personal and sexual health of those who are struggling. Please consider donating the following, if you’re able:
- HIV test kits
- Hepatitis C and B test kits
- Hygiene kits with travel-size items
- Dental hygiene kits or items
- Safe-sex kits or items
- Pregnancy tests
